Mapping for a sustainable future
Hello from Alaska. My name is Melanie Smith and this is my professional website and side project, SustainNorth. Through SustainNorth I provide low-cost map design and geospatial services in support of the conservation and outdoor recreation communities, using software generously donated by Esri.
Professionally, I am the Director of Digital Science & Data Products for the National Audubon Society. I manage interdisciplinary teams to guide the strategic and innovative use of geospatial and quantitative data to create engaging products and decision-relevant information.
I have a lifelong love of birds, the natural world, and maps that I bring to my projects such as the Bird Migration Explorer, the Ecological Atlas of the Bering, Chukchi, and Beaufort Seas, and the Southeast Alaska Birding Trail. Altogether, I have two decades of professional experience in conservation science, technology, program strategy, and environmental advocacy.
If you are interested in working with me through SustainNorth, or would like to contact me about my work in bird conservation at Audubon, you can contact me here.
